Carlos A. Yunsan

Attorney Carlos A. Yunsan regularly assists client with general and business litigation matters, with a particular focus on contractual disputes, property litigation, and personal injury claims. In addition, Mr. Yunsan is a member of the firm’s appellate practice team and advises clients on general immigration law matters. He is admitted to practice before the federal district court for the Eastern District of Tennessee and all Tennessee state courts, and is a member of the Blount County, Knoxville, Tennessee, and American Bar Associations.

A native of Panama City, Panama, Mr. Yunsan has made East Tennessee his home since 1994. After learning English and completing his freshman year at Maryville College, Mr. Yunsan graduated summa cum laude from the University of Tennessee in 1999. He then obtained a dual-master’s degree in Nutrition and Public Health also from the University of Tennessee in 2002.

After working for eight years in public health at both the local and state levels, including health promotion efforts with the Blount County Health Department, Mr. Yunsan graduated magna cum laude from the University of Tennessee College of Law in 2013, with a concentration in Advocacy and Dispute Resolution. While attending law school, he was a two-year member of the National Moot Court Team, winning the regional competition in 2012. In addition, Mr. Yunsan was a founding member and vice president of Enlace (the Latino law student association), student coordinator of the Oak Ridge Evening Bar free legal advice clinic, and president of the Health Law Society. Upon recommendation of the College of Law faculty, he was inducted to the Order of Barristers upon graduation.

Before joining Kizer & Black in 2014, Mr. Yunsan practiced in the areas of business litigation and employment law, assisting individuals, financial institutions, and other entities in a variety of litigation matters.

Mr. Yunsan and his wife, Paromita, have been married since 2002 and have one daughter, Anabella, and an Australian Shepherd, Aslan. Mr. Yunsan has served on the board of directors of HoLa (Hora Latina), and currently serves on the board of directors of the Knoxville Church, on the Community Health Council serving Knox County, the City of Knoxville, and the Town of Farragut, and on the committee overseeing continuous accreditation of the Master of Public Health (MPH) program at the University of Tennessee. He is fluent in Spanish (his native language) and in English (his primary language).
